Say you’re checking out at a store and the cashier asks “Did you find everything alright?” It took you the better part of an hour to find the desired item. Do you respond with “Yeah, thanks.” or do you say “Hell no, this thing was exactly where it SHOULD NOT have been!” This just happened to me, and I said the former, simply because at that point I just wanted to get the fuck out of there...

If I can’t find the thing I usually just say “nope” and leave it at that.

I never have trouble finding things, since an employee always walks by every other minute to make sure I’m not putting a TV under my shirt or something. The woes of being a teenager.

If I spent 30+ minutes looking for 1 thing to find out it’s on the other end of the store, yes I will call them out when they ask.

I came for the F50, but here’s my 2 cents: It’s not the cashier’s fault if you didn’t find something, so no reason to take it out on them. Floor staff, maybe.

And they don't expect you to elaborate upon that? I always assumed they would.

Usually the former, and it’s usually not even because I mean it. It’s just an automatic response I say without even thinking, like when someone at work asks how you’re doing.

They usually just say something like “im sorry” or “thats too bad”. They care as little about it as I do so its all in the balance.

Haha alright, I'll make sure I let them know next time

I surely wouldn't take my frustrations out on them, I know it's not their fault.

Yep. It's probably because even if you told them that it took you too much time to find what you were looking for, and maybe even went into detail about what was wrong, are they really going to bother to fix it? Probably not.

I say “Although the atmosphere was nice, the shopping experience was indifferent, so I’d say it was okay.”

I will often say the former, with a smile, but the cashier is not the person to tell that to. If you are not having a good shopping experience, ask for the manager and tell them politely what is wrong with their store. I never hesitate to find an employee to help me find something, but it always pisses me off when I do find an employee who just stares at the shelf along with me. Hell, I can do that.

It depends. If they have the stance of actually absorbing what you have to say then I’ll oblige. If they look like they are just going through the motions, then I say yeah and keep it moving.

(can also use that tactic if its a chick you want to talk to :P)

Yeah, that’s the other part of my reasoning as well. Even if I do explain what I think the store should do, is the cashier really going to do anything to fix it? They might, but they’re more likely busy enough that they’ll probably forget what I said before their shift is over.

This is a good question, I shall ask my personal assistant/shopper upon his return to my estate.

Nah, really, I tell them politely their layout is poor.

I will answer your question with another question:

Do you want to have more of a conversation with this cashier than the minimum required to check out your items and leave the store?

No, I do not. Hence why I say “Yeah, thanks” instead of saying how shitty the store layout is :P
